Duell welcome bonus: what the terms really mean

A welcome bonus is usually a percentage of your first deposit added as bonus funds. "100%" sounds like doubling your money. In practice it is a loan of playing time with strict conditions. What Duell offers your account, and on what terms, is on the operator's site. This guide explains the mechanics.

How a deposit match works

Worked example: you deposit 100 and a 100% match adds 100 in bonus funds. The balance shows 200, but only 100 of it is yours. Bonus funds normally cannot be withdrawn until a wagering requirement is met. Under many terms your own deposit is locked together with the bonus, so nothing can be withdrawn until the requirement is complete.

Wagering on the bonus — or on bonus plus deposit

How the requirement is calculatedWorked example at 30x
Bonus amount only100 × 30 = 3,000 in stakes
Bonus plus deposit200 × 30 = 6,000 in stakes

Amounts, percentages, requirements and deadlines are set by the operator and can change — the bonus terms on the operator's site are what apply.

A small difference in wording doubles the amount of play required. Read exactly what the requirement is calculated on.

When saying no is the better deal

If you mostly play table or live games, they often count little towards wagering. If you want to be able to withdraw after a good evening, the bonus can stand in the way. And if you already have a budget, a bonus can tempt you to play far beyond it to "unlock" the money. In all three cases it is better to leave the box unticked.

Sticky and non-sticky bonuses

Some offers are "sticky": the bonus amount is removed when you withdraw, and only winnings above it can be paid out. Others are "non-sticky": you play with your own money first, and the bonus only becomes active if that runs out. Non-sticky terms are friendlier because you can still withdraw a win made with your own deposit. The terms say which type applies.

Frequently asked questions

Can I withdraw my deposit after taking a welcome bonus?
That depends on the terms. Often the deposit is locked together with the bonus until wagering is complete.
What does a 100% welcome bonus mean?
The bonus equals your deposit. The bonus funds come with a wagering requirement and cannot normally be withdrawn until it is met.
What is a non-sticky bonus?
One where you play with your own money first; the bonus only activates if that runs out, so a win made with your deposit can still be withdrawn.
