Sports betting at Duell: odds, margins and the pace of live betting
Sports betting differs from casino games in one important way: the outcome is decided by a real event, not a random number generator. That makes it tempting to think knowledge gives you an edge. Knowledge can help you judge a match, but it does not remove the bookmaker's margin — and the margin decides who profits over time.

Whether Duell offers sports betting at all, and which markets and limits apply, is shown in the operator's lobby and terms. Whether you may bet online where you live is a matter for your local law.
What decimal odds mean
Odds of 2.50 mean a stake of 10 returns 25 if it wins: your stake plus 15 profit. Turn the odds around and you get the probability the bookmaker has priced in: 1 divided by 2.50 is 0.40, or 40%. That conversion is the most useful tool you have.
The margin: why the total exceeds 100%
Add up the implied probabilities of every outcome in a market and the total is always above 100%. The excess is the bookmaker's margin. Worked example from a football match priced 2.10 – 3.40 – 3.60:
| Outcome | Odds | Implied probability |
|---|---|---|
| Home win | 2.10 | 47.6% |
| Draw | 3.40 | 29.4% |
| Away win | 3.60 | 27.8% |
| Total | 104.8% |
The 4.8 points above 100 are the margin. Over many bets that means getting back roughly 95 for every 100 staked in such a market — before you have made a single misjudgement.
Live betting and pace
In live betting the odds move during the match and new markets open every minute. That means many decisions in little time, often driven by emotion. Live betting is the form of sports betting closest to casino play and deserves the same caution: a fixed budget and a firm limit on bets per match.
