Promo codes: where they come from and what they lock
A promo code is a short string you enter at registration or deposit to activate a specific offer. Plenty of websites list "exclusive codes". This site publishes none. Here is why, and what to know before typing a code anywhere.
Who creates the codes
Codes are created by the operator, often with partners who each get their own code. A code is therefore largely a tracking tool: it tells the operator where you came from. It does not necessarily mean a better deal than you would get without it — often it triggers the very same offer with the very same terms.
What a code triggers
A code activates an offer — and every condition attached to it. Enter a code with a deposit and that deposit may be locked behind wagering, bet limits and deadlines. Read the terms of the offer a code belongs to before using it.
| Question | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Which offer does the code activate? | The code is only a key — the terms follow the offer |
| Is the code still valid? | Expired codes may trigger a different offer |
| Where did the code come from? | Codes from unknown sources can be bait |
| What happens to the deposit? | It may be locked until wagering is met |
Amounts, percentages, requirements and deadlines are set by the operator and can change — the bonus terms on the operator's site are what apply.
Fake codes and phishing
Messages offering "secret codes" can be attempts to lure you to a fake site that imitates a casino. Never enter log-in or card details on a page reached through a code in a message. Go to the operator's site the usual way. More on fake copies is in mirror sites and blocking.
Codes and urgency
Many codes are valid only briefly: "until midnight". That is meant to make you act before thinking. No code is valuable enough to justify a deposit you had not planned.
Go to the offerRegulated markets
Where regulators restrict bonus incentives, promo codes for bonus offers largely disappear. Seeing a stream of codes is a reminder that the offer sits outside those protections.
